A man accused in a 1987 rape case was arrested in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam district after being on the run for nearly 39 years.
A total of 123 candidates, including seven ministers of Congress-National Conference coalition, eight former ministers and legislators are in fray for the Jammu and Kashmir's first phase of elections scheduled later this month.
The case pertains to hatching a conspiracy, both on physical as well as cyberspace, for undertaking violent terrorist acts in Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the country, by cadres of Pakistan-based proscribed terrorist organisations.
The militant, who was identified as Bashir Ahmed Ganai, had entered the mosque at Sheikhgund village in Anantnag district to evade arrest during a search operation.\n\n
The deceased were identified as Abdul Majeed Ganaie, Mehraj-ud-din Dar, Anees Ahmad Mir and Hameed-ul-lah Ganaie.
